The Devonian Period was when the evolution of the plants began to colonize dry land at a tremendous rate. At this time the most luxuriant vegetation was to be found in the tropics, but plants also carpeted the colder climate land masses. The fossil record shows that plants, especially ferns, covered much of the United States. Trees, as we know them today, did not exist during the Devonian period. In close association with this explosive spread, plants also diversified into numerous species that are still with us today.
PLANT FOSSILS FROM
AUSTRALIA
Up to this age the
vegetation was mainly ferns, cycads and conifers. Glossopteris was the ancestor
to all broadleaf plants like magnolia and which were to come later the maples,
oaks, elms sycamores etc. With the destruction of nearly 85% of all life due to
some catastrophe it's a rarity to find any fossils during this age.

We chose this one because it is manageable and would make an excellent

pictures as you can see as the Sun was out for a change here in New England and
it was dry !!!!!!!!!
