An Invertebrate is an animal that, simply put, has no internal skeleton. The Phylum Arthropoda contains many groups of invertebrates. One in particular, Insects, are the most evolved of all the Arthropods. They first appear during the Devonian Period 375 million years ago, completely adapted themselves to life on dry land and were the first animal to take flight. Today their species, [spiders, flies, bees, roaches and ants] far outnumber any other group of animals. The Insects have endured through many mass extinctions during geologic time and are truly survivors.
