Baltic Amber
This amber normally is found in the Baltic sea and the tides will
carry the amber to the shores of Poland as amber will float in Salt water. This
event has been going on for centuries as the Ancient Roman's used the
amber for jewelry and medicine. Until recently the insects found in the amber
were thought to be oldest geologic speaking. |

Juvenile Amber ( COPAL )
From South America
It is in amber that once animated insect life is most
exquisitely captured, as exemplified in this specimen from the foothills of the
Andes Mountains in Colombia. |

Amber From Northern Burma |
 |
Burmite is the name given to amber that is found
in this part of the world. The unique thing about this amber is that it dates
back to the Uppermost Lower Cretaceous (Albian) Age, and the plant and
insect life that is found in this amber were trapped 110,000,000 million years
ago during the time of the Dinosaur. There is a prolific amount of insect life
found in the amber and as a result of inspection and study by Dr.
Grimaldi of the American Museum of Natural History some new species of Insect
have been identified.
Burmite was not produced for seventy years before the area where the
source of the amber was rediscovered just recently. It is now being produced for
a limited time. Since burmite must be mined by hand and shipped by primative
methods ( see picture to the left ) before it can be shipped abroad we don't
know when this amber supply may run out or the Burmese Gov't may stop all mining
operations.
